Tournament Format · Graded Groups

Round robin, then a
knockout at your level.

Nobody is knocked out of the day. Everyone plays a full group, the results sort the whole field into levels, and every level plays its own bracket with its own champion.

Everybody plays everybody
Up to 8 groups, with every fixture drawn for you. Standings re-sort the moment a score goes in.
Levels, not eliminations
Advanced, Intermediate, Improver, Beginner — each level plays a full bracket and crowns its own champion.
Ranked on real tiebreakers
Matches won, then point difference, then the head-to-head result. Settled the same way every time.
You get the last word
Move anyone between levels before you commit, then generate every bracket in one tap.

Online Registration

One link.
Every entry, sorted.

Switch registration on and your tournament gets its own page. Players pick their events, name their partners, send the entry fee and upload the receipt — and every entry lands in your Pending tab, waiting on one tap.

Umpire Links

Let your umpire
keep the score.

Hand one match to your umpire — or the judge, or whoever is sitting beside that court keeping track. They scan your QR, read back a 4-digit code, and score the match on their own phone — and the result writes itself into your draw.

Nothing to install
No account, no app, no sign-up. A QR code and four digits, on any phone that has a browser.
Every rally, everywhere
The score climbs on your bracket and on your public live link as they tap. As many courts at once as you have umpires.
That match, and nothing else
The link reaches one match. Whoever holds it can’t see the rest of your draw, let alone change it — and you can cancel it any time.
Signal optional
The score is kept on their phone first. A hall with no bars doesn’t lose a single point.

Order of Play

No more “when am I on?”

Give any match a day, a court and a start time — and it shows up on your bracket and on the live link anyone can open.

More than one dayA tournament running Saturday and Sunday gets a day strip — each day with its own courts.
Running late? One tap pushes a match and everything after it on that court back by 15, 30 or 60 minutes.
Nobody has to ask youThe live link carries the whole order of play, and the score climbs on it while the match is still on.

Questions

Before you upgrade

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. Cancel from your Account page and you keep Match Point features until the end of the billing period, then drop back to Rally. No cancellation fee.

What happens to my tournaments if I downgrade?

Nothing is deleted. Tournaments above the Rally limits become read-only — you can still view, print and share them, but you'll need Match Point again to edit or add players.

Is there a free trial?

Rally is free forever, not a trial. Run a full 8-player Men's Singles draw with real BWF scoring and decide from there.

Do you offer refunds?

If something breaks and I can't fix it, email me within 14 days of payment and I'll refund the month.

How is my data stored?

Tournament data lives in a hosted Postgres database with row-level security, so only your account can read your tournaments. Payments run through Stripe — card details never touch Shuttlefix servers.

What payment methods work?

Any card Stripe accepts, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay on supported devices.

Can I run more than one tournament at once?

Yes on Match Point. Rally is limited to one active tournament at a time.

Results that survive a bad connection, and a draw that fits your phone

  • A score you type with no signal is kept. Every result now goes onto your phone first, before anything is sent anywhere. If the connection has dropped, or is simply taking its time, the score is already safe: a red Not saved yet marker appears beside the title, the app keeps retrying on its own, and the marker clears the moment everything has reached your account. If you try to close the page while anything is still unsent, the browser asks you first. And if the phone dies or the browser is closed mid-tournament, reopening the draw offers those results back — it tells you how many there were and roughly when you entered them, and puts them where they belong. A hall with one bar of signal no longer costs you a round.
  • The draw fits your phone. A Fit to screen button sits in the toolbar: tap it and the whole bracket shrinks to one screen, tap again for actual size. It works on the public live link too. The bracket also uses the full width of the screen now instead of sitting in a narrow column with wasted space down both sides, which on a phone is a round and a half more of the draw in view. Both work on every format — single elimination, double elimination, and custom draws in either layout.
  • A champion gets a moment. When the last match of an event is settled, the public live link celebrates: the champion’s name rises up the screen with fireworks behind it, for a few seconds, once. It happens on every format, and in a graded-groups tournament each level crowns its own champion and gets its own celebration. Your own scoring screen stays quiet — you already know who won.
  • Defaulted. Alongside retired and did-not-turn-up, a player can now be recorded as defaulted. It sits on the score sheet with the others, shows as DEF beside the name wherever the match appears, and is explained in the key underneath.
  • Smaller things. An umpire whose match finished while their phone had no signal is no longer stranded with a result they cannot send — the score stays on screen and the button offers to try again. A finished group fixture now carries the same green mark as the rest of the app. And the court and time list you set up now survives closing the tournament and opening it again.
v30 November 2026

When a player retires, and a custom draw that always finishes

  • When a player retires, or does not turn up. The score sheet now asks which it was and which player it applies to. The match is settled, the winner goes through, and RET or W/O sits beside the name — on your bracket, on the public live link, on the printed sheet and in the schedule. A short key underneath spells out what each code means, so nobody at the scorer’s table has to ask. Byes are marked the same way.
  • Print the order of play. Alongside the bracket and the group sheets, you can now print the order of play: every scheduled match grouped by court and listed in time order, with the players, a blank line for the score and room for the umpire’s initials. Anything not yet given a court is listed at the end, so nothing quietly drops off the sheet.
  • A custom draw now always reaches a champion. A custom fixture with an empty pair box in it could leave a later match waiting on a player who was never going to arrive — the draw could be played to the last point and still have no winner, with the final sitting on TBD. Both the one-sided and two-sided layouts now carry a player through an empty space the way a paper sheet does, and an empty box is left as blank space instead of being drawn as a match against nobody. Every draw size from 2 to 64 has been checked by playing it right through to the end.
  • You choose where the walk-through sits. When a round has an odd number of matches, one group plays nobody and goes straight into the next round. Setup now asks whether that sits at the top or the bottom of the draw, so what you see on screen matches the sheet you drew by hand. Top is the default, which is what most hand-drawn sheets do. Custom fixtures are now capped at 64 slots.
v29 October 2026
New

Hand a match to an umpire

  • One match, one link, one code. Open any match and choose Send to an umpire. You get a QR code for them to scan and a 4-digit code to read out. They score the match on their own phone — no account, no app, nothing to install — and the result writes itself into your draw. It works on every match you can score: a knockout, a group fixture, or a knockout inside a graded group. The link is good for 24 hours, you can cancel it at any time, and it reaches that one match and nothing else: whoever holds it cannot see the rest of your draw, let alone change it.
  • Scores that climb while the match is still on. Every rally the umpire taps shows up on your bracket and on your public live link, marked LIVE, with the score in its usual place. As many courts at once as you have umpires. When the match finishes the real result takes over the same line.
  • Seeded draws. Setup now asks whether the draw should be random or seeded, and for 2, 4, 8 or 16 seeds. Seeded draws keep the top players apart until the rounds where they should meet, byes go to the seeds, and a seeded player never has to play a preliminary round. Random draws are unchanged, and are still the default.
  • A decider in double elimination. If the player who came up through the losers bracket wins the grand final, both players now have one loss each — so there is a second grand final to settle it. The bracket shows it as Decider, and it only appears when it is actually needed.
  • Print the group stage. The league stage has its own Print button now, giving you a sheet per group with the table and every fixture written out with a blank score line, for the scorer’s table or the wall.
v28 October 2026
New

Levels, and one message to every player

  • Run an event at more than one standard. Add levels such as Advanced and Intermediate in Setup, and each event splits into separate draws — Advanced Men’s Singles and Intermediate Men’s Singles, with their own bracket and their own entry limit. Not every event has to run at every level: switch off any combination you are not holding, so Men’s Singles can run at two standards while Women’s Singles runs at one. Tournaments without levels are unchanged.
  • Message everyone at once. Message players, on your registration page, sends a single email to whoever you choose — approved players, everyone still entered, the waitlist, or one draw on its own. Replies come straight to you. Everyone gets their own copy, so no one sees another player’s address, and everything you have already sent is listed underneath.
  • Entries you can take back. An approved entry can be returned to pending, and any entry can be removed outright. Neither emails the player, so correcting your own mistake no longer means telling everyone about it.
  • Export your results. Account → Export downloads your tournaments and match results as a spreadsheet, for your records or for a club report.
v27 October 2026
New Fixed

Double elimination, and a proper draw for any number of players

  • Double elimination. Lose once and you drop into the losers bracket. Lose twice and you are out. Everyone gets at least two matches, the two bracket winners meet in a grand final, and when it finishes the final placings are worked out for you down to fifth. Choose it in Setup under Bracket Type, for 4 to 32 players, with either scoring format. Each winners-bracket match shows where its loser lands, and each losers-bracket match shows which match the player dropping in came from, so you can follow a player through the whole event.
  • 18 players, 12 players, 30 players — whatever you have. Numbers that are not 4, 8, 16 or 32 used to produce a bracket where one player could win a single match and then be handed a free pass through three rounds into the final. Now the draw stays a proper bracket whatever you enter: with only a few players spare it writes them in as byes, exactly as you would on paper, and with more than a few the extras play a preliminary round instead so the main draw has no byes in it at all. Either way every round is half the one before it. Draws of 4, 8, 16 and 32 are completely unchanged.
  • The draw follows the names you enter, not the size you picked. Choose 32, type 18 names, and you get an 18-player draw. Brackets generated from your approved registrations work the same way, so 18 sign-ups give you two preliminary matches instead of fourteen boxes that say BYE.
  • Best of 3 to 15. Single elimination can now be played to 15 points as well as 21, chosen in Setup when you build the bracket. The score sheet follows whichever you picked — the deuce and cap rules adjust, and it tells you which rules it is judging by while you type. You can set your usual format once in Account → Tournament Defaults and every new bracket starts there.
  • Two scoring rules were wrong, including at 21 points. A game ending 30–28 is legal badminton and the app was refusing to accept it. Every possible score in both formats has now been checked against the rules point by point.
  • Opening a saved tournament no longer flickers. The bracket setup form used to flash on screen for a moment before your bracket appeared. Fixed for knockout brackets and graded groups alike.
  • Empty slots tell you who is coming. A match waiting on an earlier result used to say “TBD”. It now says which match decides it — and the player who received a bye is always written above the one who had to play in, so a round reads the same way the whole way down.
  • Registration emails now carry your name and send replies to you, rather than signing off as “the organiser”.
v26 October 2026
Improved Fixed

A new way in, and a long list of small repairs

  • Signing in has been rebuilt. Log in and sign up now sit behind one switcher instead of two separate boxes, and the panel keeps its own look in light and dark mode so the text never washes out. Creating an account shows you which password rules you have met as you type, and every field has a Show button.
  • Your account page is tidier. Sections that did nothing have gone, and what is left is grouped the way you actually use it.
  • The live link stops losing the bracket. On a 32-player graded-groups event, spectators could refresh and be told the bracket had not been generated yet. The page now ignores an update that arrives without bracket data instead of trusting it.
  • Brackets open straight away. Opening a saved tournament no longer sits on “Loading your bracket…” for ten seconds before it appears.
  • The live page no longer flashes the homepage. Reloading a shared link used to show the homepage for a split second first.
  • Refresh does what you expect. Refreshing on Create Bracket stays on Create Bracket instead of reopening the last tournament you had open, and the page comes back at the top rather than part-way down.
  • Registration shows the total where you need it. The running total has moved to the bottom of the form, next to the button, and it now tells you to send the fee before you submit — unless the event is full, in which case it tells you to wait for the organiser.
  • Pulling down past the top of a page no longer reveals a mismatched strip of colour, the top bar is the same black everywhere instead of picking up a blue tint, and the contact page’s cards and message box sit correctly on desktop.
v25 October 2026
New

Set it once, and take your records with you

  • Tournament defaults. Your organiser name, venue, entry fee, payment instructions and payment handles now live in Account. Every tournament you create starts already filled in — you set them once instead of retyping the same details for every event. Change anything per tournament as usual.
  • Download your match results. Every match you have ever run, in one spreadsheet: tournament, group or knockout stage, round, both players, the score of each game and who won. Clubs keep season histories and people ask who played what years later — now that lives outside the app too.
  • And everything else you have put in. Three more downloads sit alongside it in Account: your tournaments, every registration with contact details and fees, and a full backup file. The spreadsheets open cleanly in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets.
v24 October 2026
New Improved Fixed

Players can sign themselves up

  • Your tournament gets its own registration page. Switch registration on and you get a short link to share and a QR code you can print for the club noticeboard. Phones scan straight to the sign-up form.
  • Everything you need arrives with the entry. Name, email, phone, skill level, the events they picked — and a partner name for every doubles event they entered, not just one.
  • Proof of payment comes attached. Players send the fee by Zelle, Cash App, Venmo, PayPal or UPI and upload the receipt. It sits next to their entry when you review it, so you are not cross-checking a bank app.
  • Set a limit per event and the waitlist runs itself. Players see how many places are left, then “Full” once it fills. Anyone past the cap still gets to enter, but is told to wait before sending any money.
  • Early bird pricing. Set a discount and a cut-off date. The price updates on the form by itself, and the fee is recalculated on the server, so the amount you see is the amount that was owed.
  • Approve or decline, and the player is emailed for you. Entries land in Pending and move to Approved, Waitlist or Rejected. Every decision sends the player an email, and their replies come back to your own inbox.
  • Download the whole list as a CSV. Names, contact details, events, partners, status, fee and payment method — ready for a spreadsheet or the scoresheet printer.
  • Approved players go straight into a bracket. Once an event has four approved entries you can generate its draw without typing a single name again.
  • The homepage now shows what the app actually does. Two new sections walk through graded groups and online registration using the real screens, so you know what you are getting before you sign up.
  • Recent updates now show on the homepage. The latest release appears under the hero and the last three show further down, so you can see the app is still being worked on without digging for this page.
  • Scrolling is smoother, especially on iPad. The top bar was redrawing itself on every single scroll frame, which made the page shimmer. It now only redraws when it actually changes.
  • Country flags load faster, and the waitlist tag in your registrations list now has its colour back.
v23 October 2026
New Improved Fixed

Graded groups go live — and nothing gets lost

  • Spectators can follow a graded-groups tournament live. Share one link and anyone can watch the group tables fill in, then tap across to the knockout brackets for every level. No sign-in, no app, and it updates on its own as you enter results.
  • See who’s watching right now. The live page shows how many people have it open at this moment, next to the running total of views.
  • Your tournament reopens where you left it. Refresh the page, or come back the next morning, and Shuttlefix puts you straight back into the draw you had open instead of a blank setup form.
  • Graded groups now save reliably. Building the levels, generating the knockouts and entering results all write to the same record. Duplicate copies no longer appear in My Tournaments, and knockout results stay put when you reopen a tournament to carry on.
  • Tell your tournaments apart at a glance. Every card in My Tournaments shows whether it’s a graded-groups or single-elimination draw, and whether a bracket is one-sided or two-sided.
  • Edit setup keeps your work. Going back to the setup form from a graded-groups tournament brings your players, groups, levels and scoring formats with you — and asks first, since generating again clears the results.
  • Switching between events is instant. The MS / WS / MD / WD / XD strip no longer rebuilds the bracket every time you tap it, so there’s no flicker and no wait.
  • Each event keeps its own tournament name and save record, so the header always matches the draw you’re looking at.
  • Opening a single-elimination draw straight after a graded-groups one now shows the right bracket, with its connector lines drawn correctly.
  • The live page is built for a phone: dark header and footer, proper margins, and a Fit to screen button that only appears when there’s something to fit.
  • Live link housekeeping — Stop Sharing now confirms before it switches a link off, and the password Save button is readable in dark mode.
  • My Tournaments no longer flickers when the page opens.

New Fixed

Entering players just got a lot faster

  • Paste your whole player list at once. Tap “Paste a list” above the name boxes, drop in names from your group chat or spreadsheet, and every box fills in order. Numbered lists and comma-separated names work too, and for doubles one list fills both halves of each pair.
  • The app remembers you instantly. Signing back in used to take a few seconds before your name appeared. Now it’s immediate.
  • Your avatar sticks. It no longer falls back to the letter circle after a page refresh.

New Improved Fixed

Your bracket stays put — and a face to go with your name

  • Free brackets now survive a closed tab. Build a draw, enter scores, close the browser by accident — come back and Shuttlefix offers to pick up exactly where you left off, scores intact.
  • Pick an avatar. Five badminton portraits to choose from on your profile, or keep the letter. Shows up across the app.
  • The bracket page knows where you are. A live header tracks the stage, the player count and how many matches are played, updating as you score.
  • Switch events without losing your place. The MS / WS / MD / WD / XD strip now sits in the bracket header, so you can jump between draws mid-tournament.
  • Dark mode follows your phone. The manual toggle is gone — Shuttlefix matches your device, with no flash of the wrong theme on load.
  • New logo, icons and link previews across the site.
  • Score entry buttons are far easier to read, especially in dark mode.
  • Corrected the bracket size on our pricing page to 32 players — 64 and above is coming.
v20 July 2026
New Improved

Big-screen brackets & smoother saving

  • Fit to screen — see a full bracket from round 1 to the final at once, no side-scrolling. Great on a laptop or projector.
  • Reliable saving — scores now save the moment you tap, even on a weak connection, and a tournament can no longer be saved twice by accident.
  • Two-sided draws now reopen exactly as you left them, with both poles intact.
  • Custom fixtures now work for doubles too — enter each pairing as a team.
  • My Tournaments got a lighter polish: progress bars on in-progress draws and smoother cards.
v19 June 2026
New

Custom fixtures — type your paper draw

  • New Custom fixture mode (Match Point) — enter any number of players and recreate your paper bracket exactly. Everyone plays round 1; no forced byes.
  • One-sided and two-sided layouts — two poles that each play down to a finalist and meet in the final.
  • Leave any box blank to put a bye exactly where your sheet has one.
  • Live share links now render the two-sided layout for spectators, updating in real time.
v18 May 2026
New Improved

A real journal & a cleaner web

  • Launched the Shuttlefix Journal — 8 in-depth guides on tournament organization, BWF rules, seeding, and round-robin leagues.
  • Standalone FAQ and BWF Standards pages with rich answers and structured data.
  • Clean URLs across the site — every article and reference page has its own crawlable address.
  • Sitemap, robots, and SEO metadata rebuilt from the ground up.
  • Static pages now follow your phone's light or dark mode automatically.
v17 May 2026
New

Doubles & cleaner everything

  • Added full doubles support — Men's, Women's & Mixed (MD, WD, XD) with two players per pair.
  • Replaced old browser pop-ups with clean toast notifications.
  • Tournament registration links are now a Match Point feature.
  • Polished account menu and avatar.
v16 April 2026
